Northern New Jersey as well as all the other regions of SCCA are family originated sharing a common interest . This interest of course is racing. Believe it or not race events are a good place to bring the family because you and your family will work as a team and be part of a much larger team. You will make many friends within the our region as well as other local regions all the while learning more about racing.
You don't have to own a race car to get the adrenaline flowing. For example, flaggers carry out a very important job by keeping the race track orderly and safe all the while cars are flying by them just feet away! One can try out some or all of the specialties (Flagging, Fire & Rescue, Grid, Pit & Paddock, Registration, Tech, Timing & Scoring to name a few) to find which one you like best or go directly into one right off the bat and immediately start working toward your 'specialty' license.
It should also be mentioned that NNJR Workers are also hired (not individually, but as a club) for other sanctioned events. In other words you may find yourself helping out in a SCCA Pro -TransAm Event, an IMSA (World Sports Cars) Event, or a NASCAR Event.
If your interest is driving, there are a number of different kinds of cars you can drive each grouped together in different categories. If your preference is open cars, we race small formula cars with 500cc two-cycle engines all the way to the much larger, more powerful Formula Atlantics. Other open cars include a Spec-Racer series as well as some production cars. If you don't prefer open cars they're many closed cars you may drive. The list is to great to go into detail here but we race just about anything from Volkswagen Rabbits to Heavy Detroit Big-Bore V8's.
There are a couple types of racing that are available within NNJR as well as other regions. Club Racing is the strongest and the most popular. Solo and Rally are others that are strong and continue to grow. In 1997, another series has been started and is growing rapidly. This series is known as the Volvo Historic Series (VHS). Volvo Cars Of North America and NNJR had joined forces to produce this great series. They no longer support this series. However, racers still continue to race their historic cars without the sponsorship. This series still continues to grow each year and is now called the Historic Series (HS).
NNJR as well as other local regions have driving schools to teach you how to drive a race car safely and earn yourself a competition license.

The new Webmaster for this website is now Darrell Anthony. Effective 05 Feb 2005 he has taken over this job for me as I no longer can do it.
So, stay tuned ... Darrell has some great ideas for this site and has the ability and time to do so. Its content, look and feel will change in the future. Please send him your comments. He's open to any suggestions from our membership.
