Timers and Scorers prepare starting grids from lap times taken during qualifying sessions and determine the order of finish for all races. T&S is an all day function. Stopwatches and supplies are furnished. Timers are assigned one or more cars to keep track of. The fundamentals of timing are easy and the experienced folks always assist new workers.

During the actual races, scorers are needed in addition to timers. One scorer writes down each car number consecutively as it crosses the start/finish line. The other records these numbers on a lap chart. This is the record of each car's position all during the race. After each race, all the timing cards and lap charts are collected and compared for accuracy and agreement. Average speed, fastest lap, new lap records, etc., are all determined now.

As most timing towers are protected from the weather, this specialty is good for someone who prefers avoiding inclement weather. No one except the starter has a better view of the start/finish line. Because of its safe position, children are welcome in T&S. T&S is especially attractive for parents and children who wish to work together.
